Tooth Extractions Near You
If your dentist informs you that receiving a tooth extraction is the best option for you and your smile, you may feel a bit panicky, but don’t worry! Dentists do not go around pulling our patients’ teeth for the fun of it. In fact, tooth extractions are often the final solution that they advise when other treatments have been unsuccessful at saving your tooth.
At Leduc Dental, we offer both simple and surgical tooth extractions to all those who need it. To learn more about what this procedure entails, feel free to give us a call or stop by our location and speak to a staff member in person.
Why Would I Need a Tooth Extraction?
Listed below are some common reasons why patients require tooth extractions in Leduc:
- Severe decay, namely it’s reached the pulp of your tooth.
- Impacted teeth.
- Severely damaged teeth.
- To prepare you for future orthodontic care.
- You have extra baby teeth.
- A cyst or abscess has formed around the tooth.
Simple vs Surgical Extractions
There are two types of tooth extractions in Leduc: simple and surgical.
Simple extractions, as the name implies, are very straightforward and don’t require invasive surgical methods to remove the affected tooth. When you come in for the procedure, your dentist will loosen the tooth in its socket by rocking it back and forth; this causes the gum tissues and other ligaments anchoring it in place to loosen as well. Then it’s extracted with dental forceps.
In comparison, a surgical extraction is the term given to the removal of wisdom teeth, also known as our third molars. Often, you’ll be referred to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon to have this done due to the notably complex nature of the procedure.
In both cases, you’ll be provided with anesthesia, so you stay comfortable while your smile is being treated. Experiencing facial swelling or minor bleeding after the treatment is normal; take Advil or Tylenol to manage any discomfort. Should complications arise, don’t hesitate to reach back out to your dentist or oral surgeon.
